Where Montreal Plays Tennis

Our history

From the early 1880’s, the Mount Royal Tennis Club has been the centre of tennis activity in Montreal. Our history is a rich and storied one, punctuated with 25 Davis Cup Ties and many other historic international and national tournaments and that continues on to the present.

A private club, the MRTC boasts twelve magnificent Har-Tru™ courts, wonderfully refurbished locker rooms, a magnificent deck overlooking the entire club, a saltwater pool, snack bar, plus a fine dining room in keeping with Montreal’s best restaurants.

There are a vast number of tennis activities to keep members busy and get their game in top form. Typical events include a variety of Round Robins, evening House Leagues for men and women, numerous Interclub teams, every kind of competitive and social tournament, plus private lessons taught by our team of seasoned professionals. Please explore our website, find an activity to suit your needs and then contact us to start the membership process!

The MRTC is Tennis Canada’s club of choice in Quebec to host The Canadian Senior Nationals tournament. The tournament was held at the MRTC in 2015 and many members participated as players and volunteers.

Please read on for a more detailed description of the Mount Royal Tennis Club’s remarkable legacy as one of Canada’s Centenary Tennis Clubs.

Boasting 12 impeccably groomed Har-Tru™ courts, the MRTC affords players of all levels an unparalleled tennis experience. The courts are open from May through October and are lighted to allow evening play.

More Tennis

Nestled amidst our world-class courts is our beautiful heritage clubhouse. The main room is a regal, wood-paneled, retreat welcoming members and their guests, complete with a giant screen TV broadcasting Grand Slam Finals and a toasty fireplace for chilly evenings. Our trophy room serves as a meeting place for various groups and committees, hosts the bridge club and can also be reserved for private functions. The clubhouse features our fully-stocked bar, kitchen and dining area. The beautifully renovated men’s and ladies’ locker rooms are well-appointed, comfortable and highly discreet.

Our spacious deck is an ideal spot to enjoy a drink and chat with friends while watching some great tennis. Plan to linger on the deck after your match and enjoy the beautiful facilities and bucolic surroundings, all minutes from the heart of the city.

Dining & Events

There’s no better way to cool off on a sweltering summer afternoon than by taking a dip in our refreshing saltwater pool. Our members have been lapping it up for years. The snack bar is just a few steps away to make sure you are fully refreshed while on the pool deck!

The spacious lawn at the MRTC invites members and their guests to take a moment to relax and enjoy life. You may find a quiet spot to lounge and read a good novel under a shady tree, or you can enjoy an al fresco lunch with friends. The lawn is the hot spot for the highly popular weekly family BBQ’s and many special themed events throughout the season.

The MRTC bar features an impressive selection of wine, beer, spirits, plus a host of special cocktails and smoothies that have been refreshing members and their guests for over 100 seasons.

The fully-stocked pro-shop boutique is located in the lower level and delivers a complete choice of top tennis apparel and gear, as well as expert racquet stringing on the premises. Stop in and indulge in some retail therapy.
